Darien Junior Field Hockey: 5th-8th Grade Field Hockey

Girls    5th, 6th, 7th, 8th    Field Hockey    House Team    Fall    Darien

About

“At this level, we move from the smaller field and play of our 3rd & 4th grade program to the full regulation pitch with 11v11 play.

DJFH has many players that pick up the stick for the first time to introduce themselves to the sport. For these players, they will quickly learn the basics and develop a love for the game. In addition to the basics, new and veteran players alike will hone their fundamental skills while developing more consistency under pressure. Athletes will continue to master individual attack and defensive skills while also beginning to develop position-specific skills. As they progress through their time in our senior program, players will refine their technical skills under pressure and explore extra-player defense and offense situations. They will develop proficiency of position-specific skills and field awareness off the ball.

This is a combined program where all 5th thru 8th grade players will be evaluated and assigned teams. ALL PLAYERS are invited to participate in evaluations.

We are very fortunate to have some of the best instruction available for our Senior House Program. Clinics, on either Monday or Wednesday evenings, are run by veteran local high school and club field hockey coaches Mo Minicus, Emily Prince, & Robyn Neto. They are supported by members of local D1 collegiate programs.

Clinics will be 90 minutes long, or until the sun sets. Each clinic will focus on one or two of the fundamentals of field hockey, which will be emphasized in a number of drills and small-sided game play.”

Look for registration in May, with the season beginning in late August and running through October or early November. Clinics usually occur on Monday or Wednesday evenings and games happen on Sunday mornings on the Oval Turfs at Darien High School.
