About

“The Darien YMCA Travel basketball program is for the highly skilled players in grades 5th through 8th who have long-term interest in competitive basketball and a willingness to make a time commitment to their training and team schedule. The travel teams compete in the Fairfield County Basketball League which is traditionally one of the toughest leagues in the state and contains some the best basketball talent around. Teams practice two nights a week and have one instructional clinic per week. Games are played on Fridays, Saturdays, and/or Sundays.

Players must attend grade appropriate tryouts. You must be a Darien resident to be considered for a team.”

Tryouts happen in October for the season that runs from November-March. In general, for boys, you can expect two teams of ten players to be selected for each grade. While girls typically have one team of 10 players per grade.

See the travel tryout schedule here.

4th grade travel: “This will be our second season having a 4th grade developmental travel basketball program. The 4th grade travel program will consist of one practice, one skills clinic and one game per week. The program will be coached by paid coaches. The purpose is to have the top players in the grade compete, learn and develop new skills to help prepare them for 5th grade travel. And of course, to have fun! Travel players must be Darien residents per the rules of the Fairfield County Basketball League.

4th grade travel players are required to play in the house league as well. Schedules will be made so that house and travel practices and games will not conflict. Players who do not register for house and who do not show up to their house events are not eligible for travel basketball.

There will be a tryout held for these teams. Practices will be held on Mondays.”
