Summer Camps to Try a New Sport

From ultimate frisbee to the ultimate catch in the Long Island Sound, these camps will have your kids branching out from traditional sports and trying something new!

Ultimate Frisbee Camp through Darien Parks & Rec, 1st-8th graders: Run by college ultimate players, this camp will introduce kids to the basics of the thrilling game through drills, mini-games, and daily scrimmages. Camp runs from 3-5:30pm at Highland Farm for 1st-8th graders.

Pelagic Kids Fishing Camp with Pelagic Beast in Stamford, 3rd-8th graders: Campers will be guided by Coast Guard licensed captains daily, teaching them the basic fundamentals needed to catch their own fish in the Long Island Sound. This weekly camp is offered to children between the ages of 8 and 18 and of all skill levels, including beginners. Choose from morning or afternoon sessions, or for ages 12 and up an evening session is available.

RCF Indoor Climbing Camp at Rock Climb Fairfield, 1st-8th graders: Rock Climb Fairfield’s Climbing Camp programs are week-long indoor rock climbing camps designed for climbers of all abilities. Whether your climbers are new to the sport or they are ready to start taking their climbing to the next level, this camp provides a fun and age-appropriate environment to build the fundamentals of indoor rock climbing. Camp activities include indoor rock climbing, knot tying and a variety of exciting climbing games. Camp runs 9am-12pm or 12:30pm-3:30pm.

Kayaking Adventures at Longshore Sailing School in Westport, 2nd-6th graders: “Kayaking Adventures offers all hands-on paddling fun, with daily kayak expeditions to Gray’s Creek salt marsh, Seymour’s Rock, and the Saugatuck River. Learn basic paddling techniques while commanding your own kayak.” Camp runs weekly either 930am-12pm or 130-4pm.

Blue Wave Track & Field Fundamentals at Darien Summer School, 2nd-8th graders: “Whether your child has an interest in Track and Field, wants to explore a new sport, or just do something active this is the camp for them. Children will be introduced to the fundamentals of various running, jumping, hurdling, and throwing events in a fun atmosphere. Sessions will be age appropriate and focus on having fun! Campers will have use of the DHS Track as well as gym space in case of inclement weather. Camp is Monday through Thursday 1-3:30pm.  No class on Friday due to Town Fireworks.”

Summer Beginner Junior Sailing Program at Norwalk Sailing School, 2nd-7th graders: “Dive into the fundamentals of sailing this summer with our Summer Beginner Junior Sailing program. Designed specifically for young enthusiasts aged 8 to 12, this program is the perfect introduction to the world of sailing. Participants will learn the basics of boat handling, safety, and maritime communication in a fun, supportive environment, setting the foundation for a lifelong appreciation of this exhilarating sport. Summer Junior Sailing is a two week learn to sail session (9am-12pm or 1-4pm) for complete beginner sailors ages 8 and up, 30 instructional hours by US Sailing certified instructors. Basic dinghy (Small Boat) sailing course per US Sailing and International Standards. Instruction on water safety, parts of the sailboat, marine knots and rigging, sail theory, points of sail, capsize techniques
