Does your child want to learn to ice skate? Whether her future is hockey or figure skating, one of these options will get her started.

Rising Stars: If your child is learning to skate to play hockey, consider the beloved Rising Stars program at the Darien Ice House run by Kyle Bensen. You’ll dress your child in full hockey equipment (including a personalized practice jersey) and send them on the ice with a stick to learn skating skills on Saturday or Sunday mornings.

Terry Conners Ice Skating Lessons: Terry Conners Rink is nearby in Stamford. Four levels of lessons are offered to build basic skating skills for two age groups – 3 to 5 year olds and 6 year olds and up. Bonus: the price is right for these classes that are held on weekday evenings and Saturday mornings. In the summer, look for full and half day camps for beginner skaters ages 5 and up.

Twin Rinks Skating School: Twin Rinks in Stamford boasts one of the largest US Figure Skating Learn to Skate USA programs in the country and one of the top 10 in the state. Classes are offered at many levels for ages 3 and up. Each class includes rental skates and consists of 25 minutes of group instruction with 25 minutes of optional free skate before or after the class. Those learning to skate for hockey can try the Dynamites Learn to Play Hockey program. Camps are also offered in the summer and during school breaks.
