Sign your active kids up for one of these local fun runs happening in April and May. They’ll love the accomplishment of running across the finish line and could even earn a medal!
Unite to Fight Childhood Hunger Run
When: April 7, 2024; the kids race kicks off at 8:15am
Where: Waveny Park, New Canaan, CT
Why: This race helps to raise money for Filling in the Blanks, an organization that fills the weekend food gap for the more than 33,000 Fairfield County children that may go from Friday school lunch until Monday at breakfast without a good meal.

Minute Man Race
When: April 28, 2024; arrive for warm-ups between 8:10-8:25am, kids races kick off according to age from 8:30am through 9:25am
Where: Compo Beach, Westport, CT
Why: More than a simple kids fun run, the Minute Man Race includes a 50-yard dash (ages 3-5), 100-yard dash (ages 6-7), 1/2 mile run (ages 8-9), a 1-mile run (ages 10-12) and a Kids Zone after the race. Medals are awarded for ages 8+ for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place boy and girl finishers, and ribbons are given to all participants. Hosted by the Westport Young Woman’s League, net proceeds from the race will go directly to charities in lower Fairfield County.

Riverside Run
When: May 11, 2024; kids fun run begins at 9:30am
Where: Riverside School, Riverside, CT
Why: Awards are given to the top three boy and girl finishers in 8 and under, 9-10, 11-13, 14-18 age groups. Proceeds from this neighborhood race benefit the Riverside School PTA programs.

Run Like a Mother
When: May 12, 2024; kids 1-mile race starts at 8am
Where: Ridgefield Playhouse, Ridgefield, CT
Why: This 1-mile Mother’s Day race is open to kids 4-12 years old that can finish the race in 20 mins or less. Kids ages 4-6 may have a parent run with them. Immediately after it finishes, there is a women’s 5K race. Afterwards, enjoy a family celebration area at Ballard Park with kids activities and refreshments. Run Like a Mother aims to model healthy behaviors for future generations of women, “and the caring of our own bodies and minds that make us stronger every day.” This year’s race supports the Ridgefield Library’s Noreen L. Papa “Mothers: Live Your Life” Fund.
