July 9, 2024

Calling all Darien 2012-2016 softball players: Register now to try out for the Darien Diamonds Travel teams. New this year — an 8U team for 2016 birth year girls!

Tryout dates, times and locations:

8U (2016): July 13 or 14, 9-10am at the McGuane Challenger Field

9U/10U (2014-2015): July 13 or 14, 9-10am  at the DHS JV Field

11U/12U (2012-2013): July 13 or 14, 10am-11am at the DHS JV Field

You only need to attend one session. Even if your daughter was on a team last year, you are required to try out again this year. Be sure to bring a glove, facemask, bat, helmet and copy of player’s birth certificate.

For those unable to make the July dates, there will be additional tryouts on August 24 and 25 with details to be sent out in early August. DLL requests that everyone register now, even if they plan to attend the August tryout, so they have a sense of team numbers. Please email Christopher Graham if none of the July or August try out dates work for your family, or if you have any other questions.

Tryout registration is required in advance and can be done here:  2024-2025 Diamonds Tryout Sign-Up

Offers will be issued to players after both sessions, and the offer letter will contain cost as well as expected commitment for Fall / Winter / Spring-Summer Sessions.

Expected commitments for Darien Diamond players:

According to Darien Little League, all travel players must play in the Darien Little League Softball House Program in the spring.

During the fall season, travel players should expect one practice and one game per week. Because softball is not an in-season fall sport, DLL says that best efforts are expected to attend as much as possible.

During the winter, players will have one indoor practice weekly at the McGuane cages and other open hitting and pitching sessions. Again, because softball is not an in-season winter sport, DLL expects best efforts to attend.

For the spring and summer, travel players will have house practices and games, plus one travel team practice and one to two travel games per week. During the spring and summer, the expectation is that travel softball will take precedence over all other sports and activities.
